No matter how careful you are with your vehicle, there may come a day when its battery might weaken and become flat. When this happens, you will need to jumpstart it. Our staff at Blaise Alexander Subaru of Lewistown discusses five easy steps to jumpstart another car.

1. Park the Second Vehicle Nearby

Park the vehicle with the operational battery facing the one that needs jumpstarting. Ensure your jumper cables can bridge the distance between the car’s batteries.

2. Find the Battery Terminals

Please turn off the engine and open the hood of both vehicles to locate their battery terminals. Ensure you determine the positive and negative terminals of each battery. They are often marked for easy identification.

3. Connect the Cable

Attach the red clamp of your cable to the positive terminal of the dead battery and the black clamp to a plastic section under the bonnet. Next, attach the red clamp at the other end of the cable to the functional battery’s positive terminal and the black clamp to its negative terminal. Afterward, attach the black clamp you put on a plastic material earlier on a metallic piece under the hood. This should jumpstart the battery.

4. Start the Engine

Leave the jumper cables intact on the batteries idle for a couple of minutes to facilitate charging. Try to start your engine after about five minutes. Your battery should start without a problem if it has no underlying issues.

5. Disconnect the Cables

If everything is right, disconnect the cables by first removing the black clamp attached to the metal piece under the hood. Follow this by removing the red clamp on your battery’s positive terminal. Remove the red clamp from the good battery, followed by the black clamp, then close the bonnets.

Following these steps while stuck in Burnham, PA can help jumpstart your car.
